Sigma VM apologizes for son’s Nov. 1 crime
ROXAS CITY – Sigma Vice Mayor Roldolfo Simon, whose son was the suspect in the November 1 killings of their three neighbors, has apologized for the incident and asked the victims’ family to let the law take its course.
“I’m sorry that we all suffered, starting on the All Saints’ Day and for the rest of our lives,” Simon said in a privilege speech during the regular session of the Sigma town council.
He said that whatever is the resolution of the event “may we learn our lessons well and move forward with our lives although we were all scarred and hurt along the way.”
Simon said that as vice mayor, he can do anything to help his son evade the arresting officers but he did not do it and instead he gave up his son to the police.
He said that he has instructed his niece to do everything possible to help the victims survive.
At around 1:30 a.m. last November 1, Simon’s son Rodelio entered the house of the Marquinez family in Poblacion Sur and stabbed to death Lorna Marquinez, 50, and her daughter Mary Jane, 27.
Lorna’s other daughter, Jenny, 16, survived.
Lorna and Mary Jane, who sustained almost the same stab wounds just below their chests, were brought to Saint Anthony College Hospital where attending physicians declared them dead.
Police said that Simon, 31, forcibly entered the Marquinez abode and stabbed Mary Jane first. When her mother woke up, the suspect also attacked her.
Jenny although wounded was able to seek help from their neighbors.
‘No Bad Relations’
In his privilege speech, Simon the victims have no bad relations with their family.
“I profusely grieve the loss of Lorna and Mary Jane Marquinez and feel deeply sorry for the pain suffered by the surviving daughter Jenny,” he said.
He added: “All I know is since that fateful night and until today standing in front of you, I have performed my duty and has been performing it until today.”
Simon appealed to the public to let the law give justice to the case and not to involve politics in the case.*
