Basngi ignores Nava’s call for him to leave ICPO
Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, director of Iloilo City Police Office, said he is ready to step down from his post, but not because Councilor Plaridel Nava Jr. told him so.
“I would step down anytime (if) majority of the people of Iloilo City would call for it,” he said.
During last City Council’s session Wednesday, Nava called on Basngi to leave the ICPO, citing his absence during the Peace and Order Council meeting with Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
This simply shows that he’s not interested to discuss things with the mayor, Nava said.
However, Basngi clarified it was not his intention to miss the meeting, adding that it happened because of a “mix-up” in his appointments.
At that time, he was also scheduled to be a part of the receiving party for Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
The CPOC meeting was scheduled at 2 p.m. while Robredo’s arrival was at 2:25 p.m.
At the airport, he was informed by Robredo’s staff that the DILG chief failed to board an earlier flight from Cebu and was scheduled instead to take a 4 p.m. flight.
But Basngi said the plan was to have his subordinate do the ICPO presentation for the CPOC meeting.
“I think it will be self-serving if I will present our accomplishment report and situation update,” he said.*
