Black Nazarene to stay at CPC until Dec. 9
ROXAS CITY – The Quiapo Black Nazarene pilgrim image which arrived at the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion on December 4 will stay at the school until December 9.
Msgr. Vicente Hilata, vical general, said during the mass on Saturday that the school will be open to devotees who will visit the image.
The Black Nazarene of Quiapo has visited Sapian, Capiz twice in the past – in August 2008 and August 2010.
Sapian Mayor Arturo Orosco Sr. and his wife Evangeline also facilitated the arrival of the pilgrim image in Roxas City in time for the Sinadya sa Halaran 2010.
The Orosco couple are active devotees of all kinds of religious statues in various parts of the country for the past 30 years.
The Black Nazarene is a burned life-size image of Jesus Christ carrying a cross. The statue was brought to Manila on May 31, 1606 by Augustinian Recollect missionaries from Mexico aboard a ship that caught fire.
Though the image was burned, people decided to preserve and honor it. Since then miracles have been reported by those who touched the image, prompting the Church to make the Black Nazarene the patron saint of Quiapo.*JEC
