6 names in list of probable next ICPO chief
Six police officials are reportedly being considered as the next director of the Iloilo City Police Office after Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, who was relieved last Monday.
They are Senior Supt. Camilo Cascolan of the National Capital Region Police Office; Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz of the Regional Operations and Plans Division; Senior Supt. Cornelio Defensor of the Regional Headquarters Support Group; former ICPO director Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias; Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro of the Antique Police Provincial Office; and even ICPO officer-in-charge Marieto Valerio.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., police regional director, said, however, there is no official list yet from the Philippine National Police Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board.
“I haven’t received any list from the national headquarters for submission to the city mayor,” he said.
Querol said he is not discounting Valerio’s permanent appointment.
“Who knows? He has still a month to prove himself that he’s up to the job,” he said.
Normally, a police officer sitting in an OIC capacity should either be confirmed within a month from his appointment or be replaced with another officer.
While Valerio may not be an Ilonggo, one of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s requirements, he has friends from within the family of Senator Franklin Drilon, Mabilog’s uncle.
Meanwhile, Basngi is now assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding Action Unit at Camp Delgado while waiting for his next assignment.
If he still wants to stay in Western Visayas, Basngi could be appointed as director of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office, Querol said.
Basngi was also offered the position of Regional Intelligence Division chief.
GPPO police chief, Supt. Leo Becerial, is still an officer-in-charge while RID chief Senior Supt. Melvin Gayotin might go on leave next month in preparation for his retirement on October 2011.*
