Marcos hails partnership for Iloilo City College
Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. yesterday hailed the strong public-private partnership in the city that is paving the way for the establishment of the Iloilo City Community College.
“This kind of partnership is the way to the future. The city’s example should be emulated by entire country as this showed unity and cooperation in order to realize a dream,” said Marcos, who was the guest of honor in the groundbreaking rites for the college building in San Pedro, Molo district.
The building will be constructed through a P25-million donation of Injap Foundation Inc. headed by Ilonggo business tycoon Edgar “Injap” Sia II, chairman and chief executive officer of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments.
The four-storey school building with a 2,500-square meter floor space will rise in an 869-square meter property owned by the city government.
Members of the Sia family, headed by their patriarch Edgar Sia Sr., came to the groundbreaking rites with their donor-scion, Edgar Sia II.
Marcos said the Ilonggos are lucky because a civic-minded family, hugely successful in business, decided to give something back to their community.
“And there’s no better gift to give but a school for the less-privileged. I wish others have the same idea or feeling of returning (something) to their community,” he said.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog assured the Ilonggos that the Sia donation is just the beginning of a much stronger public-private partnership in the city.
“The legacy of Injap will remain and will linger in the minds of Ilonggos,” the mayor said, calling the project the greatest gift of his administration to the people of Iloilo City.
The Iloilo City Community College will offer four-year diploma courses in English, Sales and Marketing, and other related programs considered as in-demand courses.*
