110 sachets of shabu seized inside BJMP jail in Ungka
Operatives of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology seized 110 sachets of suspected shabu and various objects deemed dangerous inside the Iloilo City District Jail Male Dormitory in Ungka, Jaro district during the conduct of Operations Greyhound on Monday.
Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne of the BJMP 6 Community Relations Service said the illegal drugs were found inside a sack of rice allegedly owned by Levy Zerrudo, an inmate facing drug-related cases in various courts.
Insp. Juanito Dimaano, team leader of Operations Greyhound, said the inspection is a routine activity but done unannounced, to eliminate contraband and other undesirable objects inside the jail.
Peremne said this is done in all BJMP-manned facilities to put order, promote operational efficiency, and encourage adherence to operating policies.
Also recovered during the operation were 32 cell phones, bladed instruments, bottles, ropes, playing cards, a spoon and a fork.
Supt. Joel Superficial, ICDJ-MD warden, said he wants to rid jails under him of materials that may be used by inmates to inflict physical harm or facilitate their escape, and of any other contraband.*
