Mabilog to lead enforcement of curfew
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he will lead the enforcement of curfew for minors next week in one of the city’s most popular leisure havens.
Mabilog said he has received reports that minors, especially those who belong to affluent families frequent the Smallville complex along the Diversion Road, to hang out in bars and restaurants in the area.
However, several incidents involving minors have happened in the area, including rumbles and fraternity wars.
Mabilog said the curfew for minors or those below 18 years old, is embodied in Ordinance 2006-020 that prohibits minors from roaming around the city from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The mayor said he would personally advise the minors to be at home for their safety during the curfew hours, in coordination with Councilor Plaridel Nava, chairman of the committee on women and family relations.
Although minors cannot be jailed for creating public disturbance, Mabilog said he would do his best to convince the minors not to violate the law.
A number of young people, including minors, usually congregate at the Smallville fun center until early morning and reports said minors with adult companions also participate in drag racing near the area.*
