Youth Parliament approves 22 resolutions
Youth delegates who attended the recent 8th National Youth Parliament have approved 22 resolutions geared towards the advancement and development of the sector, said NYP Regional Representative Daisy Dawn Macahilo.
Macahilo, who was one of the eight delegates from Region 6, reported the accomplishments of the 8th NYP during the meeting of the Regional Advisory Council in Western Visayas presided by Commissioner Benjie Oliva of the National Youth Commission.
The NYP is a three-day convention of youth leaders held every two years wherein policy recommendations are formulated to address youth issues and to serve as government’s guide in policy formulation and program development.
It also provides an avenue for youth leaders to share ideas and gain valuable insights and networks to aid them in their youth development efforts.
This year, the gathering was held in Butuan City from November 5 to 8.
Macahilo said before going to the NYP, delegates were required to submit one or two youth related resolutions. Her resolution urging the 15th Congress of the Philippines to pass a comprehensive and consolidated Sangguniang Kabataan Reform and Empowerment Act was included in the 22 approved resolutions.
“There is a must in investing in the youth. The SK is another mechanism for the youth to have a meaningful political participation in a democratic society. It only needs to be reformed to be more productive and effective thus to achieve transparency and good governance among the youth,” Macahilo said.
Other approved resolutions are in line with the concerns of youth on employment and entrepreneurship; environment and social development; participation; health and social services; education; youth with special needs; values; and other youth related issues.
Macahilo said it is now the turn of their national officers to lobby for the approved resolutions in Congress. Their regional officers were tasked to localize the said resolutions.*PIA
