BJMP orders strict check of personnel and visitors
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 has ordered the strict inspection of baggages and body frisking on all personnel and visitors entering the Iloilo City District Jail in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro.
Senior Supt. Romeo Vio, BJMP 6 regional director, directed Jail Warden Joel Superficial to implement the order immediately to stop the possible entry of illegal drugs.
The order came after 110 sachets of prohibited drug “shabu” were recovered inside a cell during a recent “Operation Greyhound” inspection conducted by the BJMP 6 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6.
After the inspection, 16 jail guards were relieved from their posts while an investigation still ongoing.
Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne of the BJMP Regional Investigation and Prosecution Division, said nobody is exempted from the order.
Based on their initial investigation, Peremne said the entry of illegal drugs inside the compound might have been coursed through visitors, with the involvement of some jail personnel.
“We are still investigating the case. In due time, we could already trace who are those behind this illegal operation inside the jail,” he said.
Meanwhile, four additional jail officers are being investigated for possible involvement in the entry of the illegal drugs inside the BJMP compound.
These are Senior Jail Officer 3 Rondio Asdolo, JO3 Rene Diane, JO3 John Dimafeliz, all of Iloilo City District Jail, and JO2 Renato Zamora of BJMP La Castellana City in Negros Occidental.
Peremne said the four jail officers were named by the 16 jail guards who have been relieved first.
“It doesn’t mean that they are involved but we are trying to investigate their possible participation,” he said.*PNA/MGC
