‘Inspect slaughterhouse condition’
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has ordered the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) to check the current conditions of the city slaughterhouse.
Mabilog said he wants the LEEO, headed by officer-in-charge Vincent de la Cruz, to investigate reports that some parts and by-products of swine and cows brought to the slaughterhouse are not properly accounted for.
He said he has heard complaints that some meat and animal portions are not returned to the owners.
Mabilog said this should not be the practice in the Iloilo City slaughterhouse.
He added that the LEEO will also verify reports that some personnel are doing a “lousy” job, with the slaughterhouse being very busy during the holiday.
He said slaughterhouse personnel caught cheating and not doing their jobs well could lose their jobs next year, and might even be banned from working in government.
The Local Economic Enterprise Office is tasked to check the conditions and procedures of all public markets and slaughterhouse, including collection of fees and other payments.*PNA
