Drum, bugle & lyre competition to add color to Dinagyang '09
Dinagyang spectators will not only be overwhelmed by the stunning performances of Ati-Ati tribes but also with the graceful swaying of hips of participants to the drum, bugle and lyre competition which is now included as one of the highlights of the festival.
Iloilo City Schools Assistant Division Superintendent, Dr. Febe Cang and at the same time chairperson of the drum, bugle and lyre competitions, is looking forward to the participation of all elementary and high schools in the city.
Invitations will also be sent out to secondary and elementary schools, according to Cang.
Based on the guidelines provided for by the organizer of the competition, the drum and bugle or drum, bugle and lyre should be for the secondary level while the drum and lyre/glockenspiel is open to elementary schools.
At present, four out of the 13 secondary schools in Iloilo City have already signified their intention to participate while two elementary schools outside of the city have communicated their plan to join.
Cang said all participating groups are required to perform two pieces; a contest piece composed of Ilonggo folk songs and their choice piece.
The drum, bugle and lyre competition after several years of hibernation, was revived only this 2008 Dinagyang Festival. (PNA)
