Each prov'l govt employee to get over P26T as SP approves extra cash gift

This, as members of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) approved yesterday Appropriation Ordinance No. 2008-07 granting extra cash gift as additional holiday benefit.
Some 2,000 provincial government employees stand to gain from the grant which spells at least P26,000 for each regular and casual plantilla positions. Appropriation Ordinance No. 2008-07 will cost the Provincial Government of Iloilo some P50 Million.
Vice Governor Rolex Suplico as Appropriations Committee chair led the legislative call for approval.
Under suspended rules, the third reading principle was dispensed thus allowing the final passage of the Ordinance.
"Whereas, there is an urgent need to give leeway to the Governor by granting him authority to augment any item from savings in the Personal Services to other accounts of the same class of expenditure in the approved 2008 Annual Budget, to effect Local Budget Memorandum No. 58, dated December 11, 2008, re: Grant of additional Benefit/Extra Cash gift to Personnel of Local Government Units (LGUs)," excerpt of Appropriation Ordinance No. 2008-07 stated.
Authority has thus been granted to Governor Tupas alongside the provision that "the grant of additional benefit/extra cash gift… is subject to pertinent budgeting, accounting and auditing rules and regulations…"
Appropriation Ordinance No. 2008-07 "shall take effect immediately."
