Roxas City —- A NATIONAL RESEARCH FORUM with the theme “Nurturing Research Skills and Competence Across Discipline: Achieving Competitiveness in a Fast Changing World” simultaneous with a NATIONAL CONFERENCE on “Building Character and Culture: The Collective Responsibilities and Duties of Individuals and Social Institutions” were recently held here.
Organized by the Research and Educational Development Training Institute (REDTI), endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and hosted by Filamer Christian College (FCC), the 3-day national forum and conference were attended by educators from all over the country. They came from colleges/universities as far as Abra, Agusan del Norte, Ilocos Sur, Quezon, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Laguna, Mindoro, Romblon, Cebu, Bohol, Iloilo, Capiz, Negros, Palawan, Bukidnon, Zamboanga, Basilan, and Metro Manila. An overwhelming 217 delegates came over to Roxas City to participate in the activities!
Smiling delegates.
Governor Victor Tanco, Sr. graced the opening program as keynote speaker. The kind governor also co-hosted with Senator Mar Roxas the dinner for the delegates during the first night. Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera welcomed the delegates during dinner at the Hall of Governors, Provincial Capitol. Dinner on the last night was hosted by Senator Mar Roxas and Congressman Antonio del Rosario of the 1st District of Capiz at Espacio Verde, Dayao, Roxas City. Much to the delight of the delegates/visitors, they were feted to sumptuous buffets of Capiznon cuisine and seafoods fare. Earlier during luncheon, Congressman Fredenil Castro of the 2nd District of Capiz, through Board Member Clemente “Bodong” Firmalino, also sent lechon served in the lunch buffet.
The research forum consisted of research paper presentations of various educator-researchers wherein they share their research findings to their academic colleagues for peer review. The conference had various resource speakers who discussed topics on “character and culture” as our moral responsibility.
The forum/conference was concluded with a City Tour around Roxas City and nearby Panay Church in Panay, Capiz. The visitors had a great time sightseeing and visiting the historical and scenic spots. They also dropped by at Brgy. Banica Market (where dried fishes and squids are sold at low prices) and had pasalubong shopping galore! The tour was in coordination with the Provincial Tourism Office of Capiz under the helm of Al Tesoro, provincial tourism officer. The tour itinerary was ably handled by Yvette Andion and Dino Altobano as tour guides.
Surely, the delegates were captivated by the hospitality of the Capiceños and the laid-back charm of the seaside capital city of Capiz! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who assisted me (as overall chairperson of the activities): to our public and agency officials mentioned, to my colleagues at Filamer most especially to the members of the steering committee and the forum facilitators. The names list consists of many persons but I would like to make special mention for the 24/7 assistance rendered to me by Babes Lopez, Mat Perez, Beth Borres, Minnie Chan, Tess Cosico, Judy Laserna, Lida Solano, Nabs Daria, Rommel Sario, Jonathan Adjijil and all the work students especially my office’s Hazel Panizales, Lyka delos Santos, Joy Felongco. Thank you so much!!!
