Employment opportunities for job hunters
A job fair will be conducted here in Iloilo City this month for job seekers who may want to try their luck in various job offerings. This is according to the Department of Labor and Employment 6 (DOLE 6).
The Iloilo Business Club (IBC) and the Iloilo City government through the office of Hon. Jed Mabilog, City Council Chairman of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry and Committee on Labor, Employment, Manpower Development and Placement will host this job fair combined with a career enhancement featuring lectures on jobseekers tips on interviews, proper business wardrobe and how to effectively sell oneself. It will be held at the 3rd level of SM City-Iloilo on November 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
IBC Executive Director Ma. Lea Victoria Lara said that 25 companies have already signified their participation during the event. She added that in their past experiences everytime they hold a job fair at least not less than 800 job seekers come out to look for job opportunities. The IBC had conducted jobs fairs in October 2004 and in May this year.
Lara said these jobs fairs are expression of support of the IBC and the other organizers to address unemployment in the city and support the job generation thrust of the government.
DOLE 6 Employment Promotion Division Chief Mr. Carlos Bela-ong revealed that since January to October this year, the DOLE in collaboration with other sectors has facilitated 32 job fairs in the region. Negros Occidental hosted the most with 13, followed by Iloilo with 11, Antique - 3, Aklan and Guimaras - 2 each and Capiz - 1.
Bela-ong said the job fairs are part of the continuing program of the DOLE to facilitate employment for job seekers as well as employers searching for qualified workers to fill up various vacancies.
Data obtained from the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES) of the DOLE indicated that 328 job fairs were conducted nationwide in the first semester of 2005. The 328 fairs were on top of 616 fairs conducted nationwide in 2004 or a total of 944 fairs which resulted to the hiring on the spot of some 38,794 job searchers while another 60, 959 were placed in local jobs or deployed overseas from January 2004 to June 2005.
