Ganzon's proposed ordinance draws flak
Ganzon
As controversial as his father was, Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon proposed an ordinance to set free all legitimate vendors and stall holders in all Iloilo City Public Market by granting them general amnesty and absolute payment of surcharges and interest on unpaid rental fees and or charges levied and assessed on all their past accounts under certain conditions.
However, in last Wednesday's regular session, even before Ganzon formally presented his proposed ordinance, Councilor Perla Zulueta stood and proposed that they should first get the comment of City Treasurer Katherine Tingson regarding the matter.
She said the proposed ordinance might upset the projection of the city government in its revenue collection thus it needs to be referred to the concerned committee for comments and study.
However, Ganzon was not pleased on the comments made by Zulueta. He stood and defended his proposed ordinance saying the ordinance is still on the first reading and is not yet subject for debate.
The duo nearly clashed if not for the intervention of cooler heads. Seeing her strength and knowledge on the rules and procedures on the floor, Zulueta said in Hiligaynon "indi ko mang insulto kay New Year subong."
Majority floor leader Eduardo Peņaredondo came to the rescue of Ganzon. He said the city treasurer is in a better position to give the financial situation and the forecasted revenues or budget of the city's seven public markets.
In turn, Ganzon informed the body that he has already written Tingson on the data concerning delinquent vendors. The CTO has yet to provide him a copy of the report on delinquent vendors.
