Public warned on fake tax collectors
Sullivan
Iloilo -- Provincial Treasurer Dr. Melba B. Sullivan, Ph.D, yesterday warned the public on some unidentified persons visiting offices disguising as tax collectors.
Sullivan said that her office did not authorize any private individuals or groups to visit private offices and establishments to collect Annual Fix Tax (AFT) on delivery truck and vans.
Only provincial treasury supervisors and municipal treasurers accompanied by their corresponding municipal police are authorized in the collections, added Sullivan.
The Provincial Treasurer's Office had picked strategic places such as Cabatuan, Oton, Pototan and Zarraga in establishing checkpoints for better access in collecting AFT efficiently.
Sullivan has clarified that their massive collection is a must for all delivery trucks and vans as these vehicles are using the provincial roads.
Even provincial buses coming from Antique, Aklan, Capiz and the city of Iloilo are likewise not exempted.
The province has intensified their scheme in tax collection as encouraged by Gov. Niel D. Tupas who has been consistent since his assumption into office which resulted to a bigger surplus every year.
She further warned that bogus collectors can easily be detected as they are using fake official receipts not bearing the seals of the province and stickers of inferior quality and color.
Besides these phony collectors only charge P500.00 instead of the total amount of P600.00 which breaks down to P550.00 for the tax and P50.00 for the sticker, respectively. (Capitol News)
