250T benefit from P1.2 B water supply projects
The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has completed its 42 water supply improvement and expansion projects in as many provincial areas benefiting 250,000 residents in the countryside to the tune of P1.2 billion.
This was learned from LWUA Administrator Lorenzo H. Jamora during his visit here in Iloilo City, recently. He said that the recipients of the 42 water supply improvement and expansion projects have now access to safe and potable water.
Jamora who also met with the Iloilo press presented the urgency of the passage of the proposed amendments to the LWUA charter.
Meanwhile, the LWUA publication said that of the 42 completed projects in year 2005, five were for comprehensive improvement while the other 37 were for interim improvement of water supply systems designed to meet water needs of the beneficiary communities over a period ranging from five to ten years.
Availing of the interim improvement of water systems for Western Visayas are Miag-ao, Iloilo worth P0.25 million; Himamaylan, Negro s Occidental- P28.7 million; Sagay- P15.4 million; and Silay- P28.3 million, all in Negros Occidental. The other projects are in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte (P10.282 million); Sta. Ana (P8.5 M); and Lal-o, Cagayan (199.9 M and P3.9M); San Carlos City (P36.4 M); Rosales (P4.7M) and San Quintin (P13.6M), all in Pangasinan; Parac, Pampanga (P13.49M); Sta. Maria (27.3M); Norzagaray (P26.3M) and San Rafael (P24.6 M), all in Bulacan; San Pedro (P39.2M) and Los Banos (P27.3M), both in Laguna; Mabini (P14.25M); and Tanauan(P29.9M), both in Batangas; San Jose, Mindoro Occidental(P27M); Romblon, Romblon(P2.2M) ; Pasacao(P28.46M); Bato (P10M); Calabanga(P30M) and Naga City(P48.8M) all in Camarines Sur; Carigara, Leyte (34.4M); Gen. McArthur, Eastern Samar(P113.3M); Catbalogan, Western Samar (P27.3M); Catarman, Northern Samar (P2M); Claveria, Misamis Oriental (P10M); Lupon, Davao Oriental(P14.5M); Island Garden City of Samal, Davao (P7.5M) Digos City, Davao Sur (P5M) Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte(P11.6M) Panabo, Davao del Norte (P4.97M) and Pikit, Nortehrn Cotabato (two projects worth P1.73M).
he five comprehensive water system improvement projects were completed in Binmaley and Lingayen, both in Pangasinan in the amount of P175 million and P97 million, respectively, and Pagsanjan, Laguna worth P58 million, all funded under the Japan International Cooperation (JICA) package; Iriga City-P45M funded under Asian Development Bank-Small Towns Wat er Supply Sector package; and Surigao Metro, Surigao Norte-P183 M under Japan Bank for International Cooperation 21ST Yen package.
Most of these completed projects were funded under the ADB Small Towns package and the newly-mobilized loan funds from the Kreditanstalt Fuer Weiderafbau of the Federal Republic of Germany while a few were implemented utilizing local funds, the LWUA publication further said.
