Girls killed in Guimaras fire
Two girls, aged 3 and 2 were killed Monday by an early evening fire in Buenavista, Guimaras. The bodies of the two youngsters were burned beyond recognition.
It was a painful sight for the family after seeing that the girls, 3 year-old Rose Ann and her younger sister 2 year-old Rowena Fortunato were in a tight position apparently embracing each other.
The incident happened at Barangay San Nicolas of said municipality minutes after the parents of the girls went out to buy food for dinner. They were left to the care of their elderly grandmother Violeta who suffered third degree burns as a result of the fire. Latest medical bulletin disclosed that the injured grandma will survive her burns however efforts are underway to get her further medical treatment in the city hospital.
The News Today gathered from reports that neighbors rushed to assist and help douse the fire however strong winds caused it to spread easily and gobble the entire hut made of light materials. An earlier grass fire left unattended was believed to have caused the incident.
