Leganes drivers using fake car passes
Twenty drivers belonging to the Leganes Operators and Drivers Association (LODA) were found using fake car passes by the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit (TMEU) last Sunday.
However, No fines or penalties were imposed against the erring drivers after a dialog was made yesterday morning between the drivers association, TMEU and Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Treñas confirmed that the seized car passes were indeed fake. The fake car passes reflects a different stroke of signature supposedly signed by TMEU chief Senior Inspector Bob Foerster.
Treñas said they agreed to forgive the drivers but he will make sure it would be their first and the last.
"We may be considerate but we will not tolerate the drivers' misdeeds," Treñas said.
He said other than the city government nobody else have the authority to create or issue car passes. The car passes are given free by the city government to all drivers associations that enter the city in a given time.
With the forgiveness, comes the non-implementation of the fines. The erring drivers were supposed to pay P1,000 fines for using fake car passes.
LODA is headed by June Lacanaria. They have some 436 driver members and not all of them are using the car pass in a particular time.
In order to address the proliferation of fake car passes, it was agreed that they will be issued another set of car passes. The old car passes currently used by the drivers are already worn out. The printing of the car passes is already being taken cared of by an employee of the City Legal Office (CLO).
Even before last Sunday's apprehension, the city is already contemplating of issuing another set of car passes to the drivers particularly to the drivers associations belonging to the Metro Iloilo Development Council (MIDC), said Treñas.
