Fil-British Boy Mayor wants to learn local governance from JPT
Boy Mayor Thomas Measures wants to experience and learn things from City Mayor Jerry Treñas on how the city government is run. Measures is this year's Boy Mayor assuming his position last Monday which will last for a week. Several other high school students in the city serves in various positions such as the vice mayor, city councilors and department heads.
The Boys and Girls Week is a joint project of the Rotary Club of Iloilo and the city government. Students who are part of this year's Boys and Girls Week have passed a rigid screening. The yearly activity provides young leaders an avenue to experience hands-on governance.
Measures, a 15-year old half Filipino-half British, said he wants to learn about governance from the city mayor and eventually discuss some issues concerning the city government.
Chosen as this year's Girl Vice Mayor is Afnan Omar Al-Abdalla of the Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus. Victor Robinson III of the Ateneo de Iloilo is the first city councilor and majority floor leader. Thirty-three other students also sit as department heads, city court judges, fire marshal and city police director.
The Boy and Girl councilors are Hajar Al-abdullah of the Ateneo de Iloilo, June Buyco and Patriz Danielle Nana of the Iloilo City National High School, Vincent Gregory Yu of Iloilo Central Commercial High School, Serlyn Barcelona of the University of the Philippines, Jefferson Magbanua of Westbridge High School, Ability Ann Tacaisan of Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, Patrick Mabilog and Bemboy Niño Subusa of Philippine Science High School, Stephanie Enarbia of Ateneo de Iloilo and Sierralyn Jaranilla of Central Philippine University.
Mary Ann Rose Asis from SPED-ISEC is the ABC Councilor and Mary Camille Reyes from Philippine Science High School is the SK councilor.
