RP's 'Father of Franchising' in Iloilo franchise, trade expo gab
Tourism as the next boom in franchising?
Hear it all from Samie Lim, founding president and chairman of the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) and recognized "Father of Franchising in the Philippines."
Lim will be in town Thursday for the region's biggest franchise conference and trade exposition with a keynote talk on the potential of tourism in the country vis-a-vis the franchise industry.
Dubbed the "Iloilo Franchise Conference and Exposition," `Lim's Iloilo visit marks the 20th anniversary of Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI), the country's best micro-finance institution. Partners are the PFA, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry- Iloilo Chapter, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Government of Iloilo and the Iloilo City Government.
A staunch advocate in the world of franchise, Lim's continued efforts has made converts in many towards the realization that tourism is a multi-faceted industry. Unlike traditional industries, tourisms activity is defined by a diverse collection of products and services which are all 'franchisable'.
The Philippine scenario has since placed tourism at the center of all international efforts to strengthen economies, create employment, alleviate poverty and stimulate development. It is identified as a "sunrise industry" that will serve as a vital tool for national economic development.
As chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Lim conceptualized the PCCI's "Biztour5 Program" which was launched in 2003 to help augment the government's efforts in making tourism sustainable in the country. It was also formulated to answer the need for a program for a private sector-driven tourism effort in the Philippines.
Lim continues to be a moving spirit in the Philippine franchising industry.
The powerhouse conference will also see the country's leading franchise experts in Bing Limjoco, chairman of the PFA and Global Franchise Marketing Inc., Manuel Siggaoat, PFA vice-president for Finance and chairman, Manels Group of Companies, Yvette Orbeta, president of Wendy's Philippines and Jose Magsaysay Jr. of Potato Corner.
