Treñas mum on plans for 2007 polls
Unlike Gov. Niel Tupas, Sr. who already made public some of the candidates that will compose his political line up, Mayor Jerry Treñas refused to give details on who will be included in his ticket come 2007 elections.
Treñas said nothing is concrete as of the moment with regard to the 2007 polls as the Supreme Court has yet to decide on the petition filed by the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (Ulap) and Sigaw ng Bayan to reverse the Commission on Elections' rejection of people's initiative to effect changes to the Constitution. The same action is also being supported by the League of Cities in the Philippines which Treñas heads.
Treñas, in an interview with the City Hall Press Corps, refused to confirm rumors that Councilor Jed Patrick Mabilog will be his runningmate in next year's election.
"Everything is fluid right now," he merely said.
He said the issue on whether or not there will be an election next year still depends on the decision of the Supreme Court.
The mayor also refused to give hints as to who will be included in the list of probable candidates for councilor of their group.
Meanwhile, Mabilog's name is ubiquitous in every corner of the city raising suspicion that he is gunning for vice mayor in the coming election.
Political observers say as early as July, Mabilog already distributed shirts printed with his name and the names of his colleagues Councilors Juliene Baronda and Merci Drilon-Garcia.
Mabilog, Baronda and Garcia are even called the "three stooges" at the Sangguniang Panglungsod.
