Add'l P20M out for Guimaras oil spill fund
An additional P20 million was now released by the National Disaster Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) for three provinces affected by the recent oil spill. With the biggest chunk of P10 million for the Province of Guimaras, the provinces of Iloilo and Negros Occidental also got its share of P5 million, respectively.
The latest release followed suit in the previous P20 million then handed out by the NDCC to the three Western Visayas provinces.
Said fund came amidst continued clean-up efforts principally by Petron , owner of the bunker fuel shipment on board the ill-fated taker, M/V Solar 1.
The inclusion of Iloilo province and Negros Occidental was pushed after several coastal towns here had oil sheens within its municipal sea waters.
Meantime, similar release is also expected from the P2 billion Oil Spill Fund set by Congress with an oversight committee created to oversee management of the funds.
Guimaras Congressman Edgar Espinosa in an earlier interview assured that proper disposition and use of the huge government assistance will be under the watchful eyes of both the Lower House and Senate.
Iloilo Fifth District Congressman Rolex Suplico for his part then warned “human vultures” in government who he said are out to take advantage of the tragedy that hit Western Visayas.
