Treñas' group still to choose vice-mayoralty bet
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said there are four aspirants for the vice mayorship who wants join the Lakas party in next year's election. He, however, declined to name them at present as they have yet to decide on who to choose.
Treñas said the candidate should meet the standards the party has set from among their candidates. Among the standards set by the party for their vice mayoralty candidate are: being loyal to the party, a team player and should have a track record in public service.
However, sources said Councilors Jed Mabilog, Jose Espinosa III and Ramon Cua-Locsin are among the aspirants for the vice mayoralty post. Former Vice Mayor Victor Facultad is also eyeing the vice mayorship. He is reportedly joining former Mayor Mansueto Malabor in next year's local election.
He said they will know his entire slate in due time.
"All of you will have access on who among the candidates are included in the Lakas party," Treñas said. He could not say yet if the group of councilors who joined him in the recent election will still be a part of the Lakas party.
There were informations that there are new councilors who will join the Lakas and there are also councilors who will bolt out the party.
Treñas added that he has nothing to worry on who will run against him. The reports on former Mayor Mansueto Malabor's plan to run for reelection as mayor does not even annoy him. "It will be a healthy exercise if there are lots of aspirants for a certain position," he said.
The city mayor said the former mayor (Malabor) knows how he campaigned in last election. Treñas and Malabor used to be in one political group. However, in the recent election Treñas and Malabor parted ways. He sought reelection with Councilor Raul Gonzalez, Jr. as the party's candidate for congressman against Malabor. Malabor eventually lost to Gonzalez.
