CA gives Tupas, Armada camps 25-day 'extension' as questions raised on TRO

Cebu City -- Lawyers for key Capitol officials of the Iloilo Provincial Government embroiled in the continuing controversy brought by the double dismissal orders for Governor Neil Tupas and two provincial board members will have to wrap up respective arguments before the Court of Appeals (CA) here.

Lakas to start campaigning next week

Although it has yet to reveal its line up for the Senate, the local chapter of the ruling Lakas Christian-Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) will begin its campaign for the midterm elections in May by next week.

Drilon won't run for Congress

Senator Franklin Drilon will not run for congressman of Iloilo City this coming May 14 election. This was disclosed by Governor Niel Tupas after their group's meeting last Friday.

Tupas said, in the meeting of the United Opposition group in the city and province of Iloilo which was attended by Senator Drilon the latter expressed that he will not run for congressman of the city erasing doubts about his rumored political plan.

Earlier, Drilon transferred his voter's registration from San Juan, Metro Manila to Iloilo City raising suspicions about his plan to run for congressman in the city.

Presidential Chief of Staff Mike Defensor said the administration will probably make public the entire senatorial slate of the administration on February 12 to avoid counter negotiations from the opposition party.

IDFI vows speedy release of Dinagyang financial report

Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) executive director Ben Jimena assured that the foundation will soon release their financial statement regarding the expenditures and donations they had received for the Dinagyang Festival 2007. Initially, the foundation spent some P4 million for both the Kasadyahan and ati-ati competitions, said Jimena.

Ombudsman urged to resolve Syjuco graft cases to show impartiality

The Office of the Ombudsman will lose its credibility unless it is able to resolve graft cases involving top-ranking officials of the Arroyo administration and show it is impartial in conducting its investigation.

US medical team starts mission in Iloilo

The United States Medical Team that arrived here last Jan. 26 started Tuesday, January 30, its five-day mission at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan to provide free consultations, surgery and other health services to the indigent Ilonggos.
