No more glaring Xmas lights for police stations
Different police precincts in the city will not glare during the Holiday Season as the top official of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) ordered all station chiefs not to adorn their stations with holiday lights or Christmas lights.
ICPO Director Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga said the order prohibiting all police stations to decorate their offices or the facade with Christmas lights is part of the organization's austerity measures.
Barayuga said they don't want to add burden to city government which is paying the electric bills of the six city police stations to Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco).
He said the putting up of holiday lights will mean additional electricity consumption and eventually higher electric bills for the city police. "The ICPO headquarters including all police precincts should save power since the city pays for it," Barayuga said.
Earlier, the city government decided to shoulder portion of the electricity and telephone bills of the ICPO after the police hierarchy failed to apportion funds for their utility bills. The unpaid electricity bills of the city police reached to millions of pesos.
Barayuga, however, said they could decorate their offices with lanterns and other Christmas ornaments which are not dependent or powered by electricity.
