Sto. Niño image from Cebu to lead fluvial procession
The replica image of Señor Sto. Niño de Cebu will again be brought here in Iloilo City to lead in the fluvial procession along the Iloilo River on January 25.
The fluvial procession will start at Fort San Pedro and end at the back of the Iloilo Customs House.
Dinagyang Liturgical Committee chair June Rivera said Mayor Jerry Treñas, the Augustinian priests, members of the Cofradia del Señor Santo Niño, hermana and hermano mayor and members of the Dinagyang executive committee will receive the arrival of the Señor Sto. Niño image at the Iloilo pier morning of Jan. 25.
Students from four city schools will also meet the image at the Iloilo pier. The image will then be brought to the San Jose de Placer Parish Church. The image of Señor Sto. Niño de Cebu has been part of the Dinagyang celebration in Iloilo City.
During the fluvial procession, agencies such as the Philippine Coast Guard will exercise safety measures for the devotees. In previous years, the number of devotees on board the pumpboat which carried the holy image were minimized to avoid any untoward incident along the river.
The devotees who belong to the Cofradia del Señor Sto. Niño are always at the forefront in the fluvial procession until the foot procession leading to the church. They have long been devotees of Señor Sto. Niño. The group wants to maintain the religiosity of the event. The theme for this year's Dinagyang festival is "One Mind, One Heart for Santo Niño."
