Iloilo City's AA abattoir now on test run
The new AA abattoir of Iloilo City is now on a test run and is expected to go full swing on its operation before the end of May.
This was announced by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who instructed all concerned department heads of the city government to focus their attention on the upcoming full operation of the slaughterhouse.
The abattoir is a counter-parting project between the city government and the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The DA-National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC) and the Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) provided more than P35 million for the building, machineries and wastewater treatment plant.
The wastewater treatment facility consists of 75 cubic meters wastewater treatment ponds, installation of methane recovery system consisting of two units of 150 cubic meters of biogas digester, construction of rainwater harvesting system of 92 cubic meter cistern and water minimization program by liquid waste reduction, waste segregation and composting.
The city components include the 2.4 hectare lot, perimeter fence, boiler room and road right of way.
The facility also maintains a plant nursery of some one hectare, animal sheds and pens.
The new facility can accommodate 600 heads of hogs a day. Soon additional cattle line will be installed for carabaos and cattles. (PNA)
