Typhoon victims asked to report stolen things to police
Residents affected by flood who are victimized by looters were told to report to the police station so that there could be proper accounting of things stolen from them other than those things carried by flash floods.
SPO1 Ray De los Santos, operations chief of the Jaro police station, said it is better for the typhoon victims to report to the police whatever things that were stolen to them as they fled their homes to save their lives last Saturday. The official report would make it easier for the police to recover the items, Delos Santos said.
The information on the alleged looting during and after the typhoon came out after the victims themselves have accounted their things. The Jaro district was hardly hit by flash floods and a number of subdivisions are situated in Jaro.
De los Santos suspect that the information might be true but they need official complaints from the victims to recover their things. The police and even the tanod in different barangays was rushing to save lives and not to secure properties during the flood.
No police was tasked to watch over the properties of the victims as they fled their homes and transfer whatever things they could transfer to safe places. The police focused on rescue operations, said De los Santos.
