Iloilo City receives computer donations
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas signed Thursday three sets of deed of donations with three companies for 60 slightly used computers to help fill up and replace the 175 computer units destroyed by flood spawned by Typhoon Frank last June 21-22 in public elementary and high schools here.
The donations cover 10 units from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) as the bank's initial donation, 10 monitors and 10 computer tables from CallBox call center and 30 units from Metro Bank Iloilo.
Officials of the two banks and call center and Department of Education Division of City Schools Superintendent Erlinda Gencaya witnessed the signing of the deed of donations.
Treñas said the donated computer units will greatly help back the schools and their students on their computer subjects. The city has 51 elementary and 11 highs schools.
Most of the computers destroyed in the floods were in the Jaro and Mandurriao secondary schools and selected elementary schools.
The city mayor said that more computer donations will come from the Ayala Foundation, IBM Corp. and Bank of the Philippine Islands. Other donations will also come from the Gilas program and the Ilonggo communities in the United States.
These donations will be sent soon to Iloilo in one container van, including the 1,000 volumes of books donation from Quezon City government and public library. (PNA)
