Iloilo OTOP Fair 2008 opens at Robinsons Place Iloilo
As a continuing effort to promote and develop the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) Foundation, Inc. and the Province and City of Iloilo will hold a One Town, One Product (OTOP) Trade Fair at the Ground Circle of Robinson's Place, Iloilo.
The fair will run from September 1 to 7, 2008 and will open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. A total of 25 MSMEs will showcase their best products during the week-long activity. Of these, 17 are OTOP and 8 are non-OTOP exhibitors categorized into food sector (16), handwoven products (2), gifts and housewares (5) and organic and herbal products (2).
An opening program will be held at the Ground Circle, Robinson's Place, Iloilo on September 1, 2008 at 4:00 pm with Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Hon. Raul Banias as the keynote speaker. Expected to be present are Governor Niel D. Tupas, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, municipal mayors of Iloilo and officers of the SMED Foundation and DTI. Selected dancers and drummers of Tribu Kasag of Banate, Iloilo is invited to perform during the opening program. Kasag, the local term for the steamed blue crab which is the OTOP of Banate has been adopted as the name of the festival of the municipality.
The Iloilo SMED Foundation, Inc. is a multi-agency entity composed of government and private sector representatives that contributes to the promotion and development of MSMEs. (DTI-Iloilo)
