Capiz donates P100T to Alay Lakad
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. has pledged P100,000 to Alay Lakad – Roxas City during the actual walk of Alay Lakad celebration last October 3 here.
The donation of the provincial government is in addition to about P235,000 accumulated contributions from the walk participants composed of students, government officials and employees, barangay leaders, and socio-civic and non-government organizations, among others.
"Today we express our concern for the young and less privileged especially the out-of-school youth (OSY)," said Gov. Tanco in his message in a short program at the Villareal Stadium following the walk.
The program was also graced by 2008 Alay Lakad celebration chairman Alice So and Alay Lakad Foundation Incorporated (ALFI) president Frank Evaristo, who pledged P30,000.00 to Alay Lakad – Roxas City.
For her part, So enjoined the Capiceños to join in "uplifting our OSY by giving them right to education to become productive citizens in the community."
"Evaristo and So were the first-ever Alay Lakad national officials to join Capiceños in the walk," said ALFI – Roxas City Chapter President and Roxas City Veterinarian Dante Corros.
The walk-for-a-cause has helped hundreds of OSYs thru livelihood projects, trainings and scholarship grants since its observance here in 1991.
The yearly activity also aims to increase public consciousness on the plight of the increasing number of out-of-school youth in the country whose right to education and to stay in school is a basic and primary right. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
