'People's Hour' in Capiz caters 26 environmental concerns
ROXAS CITY – At least 26 environmental complaints and concerns were registered and acted upon during a "People's Hour" activity last October 2 at the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) here.
The turn-out of the half-day dialogue was an indication that a lot of Capiceños have the confidence that their environment-related problems will be resolved by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), said DENR – Regional Executive Director Lormelyn Caludio as reiterated by Capiz Forest Management Services Chief Edwin Borja during a post-activity interview.
Claudio was with other top regional environment authorities during the People's Hour in the province.
Borja added that a weekly (every Thursday) People's Hour will be adopted by the PENRO – Capiz after the regional top environment authorities have finished the introduction and conduct of the dialogue to various provinces regionwide.
The dialogue targets audience like upland farmers and fisherfolk who have cases or issues to take up concerning land ownership, upland disputes, mining and related matters on the environment.
DENR Secretary Lito Atienza has launched the face-to-face meeting with rural residents after noting that poor people - - farmers from Mindanao or small businessmen from Visayas – go to the DENR central office to follow up their transactions which could have been acted upon in the regions.
