The Special Award for this year will be given by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) for Public Realm Writing, focusing on features and opinion articles published in the school papers, documenting community initiatives and advocating actions for change.
Special Group Awards will be for Best Editorial Page, Best News Page, Best Feature Page, Best Literary Page, Best Sports Page, Best Filipino Page, Best Newspaper Layout, Best Magazine Layout, Best Magazine Cover Design.
PIA 6 Dir. Janet Mesa said the publications contest in every COPRE event is a showcase of how editors and writers apply the basic journalism techniques given them during the PIA's yearly seminar workshops.
This year the PIA trainings included lectures on Journalism for Peace, Investigative Reporting and Business Writing, which are also among the major considerations for content in the publication entries.
The awards will be given on November 28, after the writing contests and the Ms. And Mr. COPRE '08 Pageant, at the Centennial Resort Hotel and Convention Center. (PIA 6)
