Aklan's Alay Lakad-Alay Linis set Nov. 28
KALIBO, AKLAN -- After several scheduling and re-scheduling, organizers of Aklan's first-ever Alay Lakad-Alay Linis activity have finally decided to hold it November 28 of this year.
This year's activity, which will involve cleaning-up of different areas in Kalibo which are still unsightly after Typhoon Frank devastated Kalibo, was considered by organizers and participants to be more relevant than the usual walk, and meaningful too.
The clean-up in lieu of Alay Lakad will be participated by national, provincial and municipal employees, non-government organizations, schools, and civic clubs.
As in the past schedules, the activity this year will be a joint one with the municipality of Kalibo, led by Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo.
Donations will also be collected this year, as in the past Alay Lakad activities.
This year's chairperson is the Kiwanis Club of Kalibo, led by its President, Juan Climaco Abella. Honorary Chairperson for the province of Aklan is Governor Carlito Marquez.
The clean-up will also be held to synchronize with the launching of the province' Re-greening and Beautification Project., which will also be a contest at the same time.
Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez, who recently met with the province' municipal mayors to talk about the project, said the activity involves the cleaning up of roadsides from Caticlan, Malay to Cabangila, Altavas. The area constitutes the province' portion of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SNRH).
Governor Marquez also said ornamental and flowering plants would also be planted along the highway.
"The re-greening/beautification project will be good for the tourism industry of the province and this activity might also serve as a model to other provinces in Western Visayas," Governor Marquez said.
Cash prizes will be given to participating municipalities. First prize, according to Governor Marquez, will receive P100,000; 2nd prize, P75,000 and third, P50,000. There will be a set of prizes each for the eastern and western towns of the province.
Two sets of cash prizes for the eastern and western side of the province will also be given to residential owners whose areas are clean and fully planted with ornamental and flowering plants. First prize will get P30,000; second, P20,000; and third, P10,000.
The prizes will be awarded during the province, celebration of its anniversary as a province in April next year, according to Marquez. (PIA)
