ICPO to observe energy conservation measures this Yuletide season
In compliance with the memorandum order of Mayor Jerry Treñas on the energy conservation measures of the city government this Christmas season, all police precincts and offices under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) are ordered to refrain from putting "high powered Christmas lights and decorations."
In a memorandum order dated November 24, 2008, ICPO OIC Director Sr. Supt. Bartolome Tobias reiterated to all police precincts, mobile group and all offices under the city police that "they can install Christmas lights and electric powered decorations provided that this decoration is simple and can consume minimal wattage of electricity, as part of our energy conservation measures."
Traditionally, all the police precincts in the city have their own concepts in celebrating the Yuletide Season by putting up colorful Christmas lights and decorations.
The OIC city police director issued the memorandum in compliance with the order earlier issued by Treñas on the use of Christmas lights and decorations in all the city government offices and barangay officials as measures in preventing the excessive use of electricity for decorations.
In the memorandum order 739 issued by the mayor, punong barangays and barangay officials are directed to refrain from putting up Christmas trees and other Christmas decorations adorned with lights in their respective barangays.
"Unless the electrical connection and expense are exclusively owned and shouldered by a private person."
The same memorandum clarifies that "barangay officials are not refrained from putting up Christmas trees and Christmas decorations as long as they are not adorned with lights."
The order also said every district shall be allowed to put up only one Christmas tree adorned with lights in their respective districts preferably in the public plaza. Excessive lights on the district Christmas tree shall not be allowed.
The ABC district presidents must also coordinate with City Electrician Engr. Salvador Pedregosa of the City Engineers Office.
