Calinog town execs fear presence of 'underworld characters'
Officials of the Municipality of Calinog, Iloilo called on the immediate establishment of police outposts throughout the town. This, as municipal officials here expressed alarm over what was termed as "deteriorating peace and order."
And it does not stop there. The town officials went on to state that said "deterioration" is due to the reported presence of "lawless elements."
Further still, "..there have been series of robbery/hold-up perpetrated by organized underworld character which wrought havoc to the residents."
As such, Ordinance No. 2008-14 was passed with the police outposts if and when erected in "strategic places," believed to be the ultimate solution or at least, "as deterrent to criminality."
The Ordinance was pushed by Councilor Dino Dizon and backed by Councilors Renato Casinao and Teresita Lao.
Police outposts here are expected to be manned by police operatives for the conduct of checkpoints and "other activities to deter criminality." Yet as augmentation force, the barangay tanods will also be tasked here with a detailed police to be assigned on a 24/7 basis.
The Ordinance got the legislative nod of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) as per recommendation of the Committee on Public Order and Safety. Committee Chair is First District Board Member Richard Garin.
