Antique to receive P1.5M worth of medicines
SAN JOSE, Antique – Cheaper and quality medicines worth P1.5 million will be delivered to the Provincial Government-Provincial Health Office here in line with the implementation of Republic Act 9502 dubbed as the Universally Accessible Cheaper and Quality Medicines Act of 2008.
Provincial Health Officer Norman Tanchuan disclosed that the Cheaper and Quality Medicines Law was authored by Congresswoman Janette Garin with Congressman Exequiel B. Javier as the co-author.
The Act leads realization to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) to lower prices through generic prescription and not the brand name, the Provincial Health Officer explained.
Under the Package 100 (P100) selected priority and quality medicines that would address the leading causes of sickness and deaths could be available and accessible to the patients, Tanchuan explained.
Medicines of this nature include commonly used for basic treatment of diseases like respiratory infections, gastroenteritis/ulcers, diabetes, hypertension and cancer.
The Botika sa Barangay could be tapped as outlets for the cheap and quality medicines.
Since the prices have already been reduced, availment of discounts could no longer be enjoyed by the senior citizens and other sectors, Tanchuan explained. (EA Abasquez/PIA)
