DSWD to extend Food-for-School program
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 6 is now preparing for the extension of the Food-for-School program in Western Visayas.
DSWD Food-for-School program in-charge Sally Gayoma said that even as the National Food Authority (NFA) is delivering the rice for the beneficiaries under the initial 33-day program, they are now preparing the allocation for the program's extension.
Gayoma said that the extension will meet the 120-day food requirement of the 34,972 beneficiaries in the four provinces of Western Visayas this year.
The four provinces that are beneficiaries of the Food-for-School program are Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
Under the Food-for-School program, the Day Care pupils enrolled at the DSWD Day Care Centers will receive one kilo of rice in exchange of their one day of attendance in school.
This program has been launched to help in the hunger mitigation among day care children and to encourage their parents to send them to school. (PNA)
