Moncal to assume as City Police OIC
The police official who figured in the controversial Capitol siege in January 17, 2007 is set to assume as the officer-in-charge of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO). His assignment is welcomed by Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Treñas said he approves the assignment of Senior Supt. Melvin Moncal as the OIC director of the city police office. He said the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 has recommended Moncal’s name from among the list of police officials who are qualified to take the position.
Moncal is assigned as the training director of the 6th Regional Mobile Group based in Negros Occidental. He made a mark because of the Capitol siege for leading a group of policemen in serving the supposed dismissal order on Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas.
The chief executive expects Moncal’s assumption at the ICPO as soon as possible. He said the current OIC chief Supt. Eugenio Espejo is not qualified to assume the position as he still lacks the requirements for a senior police official taking the position as ICPO chief.
Treñas said Espejo has done his job well but they have to observe the prerequisites on the appointment of a city police director. Espejo replaced Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias after the latter joined the UN Peacekeeping Force in Timor Leste.
