Forum to intensify dengue awareness held
The Iloilo Medical Society and the Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce organized a forum Monday that aims to raise the awareness of the public on dengue hemorrhagic fever following the increasing number of cases here.
The forum was held at 2 p.m. in Brgy. Veterans Village in City Proper district, one of the areas found to have dengue cases.
The city government through its City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) also extended its clean up campaign to destroy areas that serve as breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
In a report to the office of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the City Health Office (CHO) said there are 45 dengue cases with six deaths for the first five months of this year, which is higher compared to the same period in 2008 with 26 cases in 2008 with no deaths and to 34 cases with four deaths in 2007.
The highest case for this year was recorded in May with 25.
Mayor Treñas said that flyers and other materials are also being readied for distribution to the affected barangays.
The A/H1N1 flu was also tackled during the forum. The forum was held in coordination with the CHO. (PNA)
