Independence Day Job Fair to cater to 16,000 job seekers
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 said that close to 16,000 jobs are for the take in the upcoming three-day mega job fair to be participated in by 15 government agencies and about 28 local companies and overseas recruitment agencies.
In a DOLE 6 press release, Dir. Aida Estabillo said the job fair will endeavor to connect the displaced workers and the unemployed to local and foreign employment opportunities, including vacancies in government.
On June 12, the first day of the job fair, job matching will be for 15 government agencies which posted a total of 1,087 job vacancies from unfilled plantilla positions for short term emergency employment, under the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment program (CLEEP).
It can be recalled that Pres. Gloria Arroyo in her Executive Order No. 782, has directed all government agencies to set aside 1.5 per cent of their Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) budget to hire displaced workers or their dependents for emergency employment.
The same EO also ordered the agencies to fill up vacant plantilla positions by hiring displaced workers or their dependents, if they meet the qualifications required by the positions.
Dir. Estabilo said the second day of the Job fair, June 13, is set aside for matching of job vacancies posted by local companies, which to date, have reached 738 jobs.
Estabillo added the number is expected to increase, once the Iloilo Business Club can submit to the DOLE the list of member companies which will participate.
On June 14, the third day, job matching will be for overseas employment, which to date, have 14,00 available jobs, posted by participating overseas recruitment agencies.
One-stop-shop pre-employment services will be set up during the three-day affair, to assist the jobseekers, which will be provided by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Postal Corporation, National Statistics Office (NSO), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Social Security System (SSS), Professional Regulations Commissions (PRC) and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), among others.
DOLE is advising applicants to bring with them their detailed resume, certificate of employment, transcript of records and passport if any. (DOLE6/PIA6/ESS)
