OWWA honors outstanding OFWs from Western Visayas
Four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Western Visayas were recognized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as Outstanding OFWs in line with the Migrant Workers Day celebration on Sunday.
Two land-based workers and two sea-based workers were each given Plaques of Appreciation and P10,000 cash courtesy of Globe Telecom, according to OWWA officer-in-charge James Mendiola.
Mendiola said this year’s giving of recognition to land-based workers Joery Porquia and Dexter Tugbang was unique because the awardees were all once based in Saudi Arabia, the pioneer destination of OFWs and even up to now the most sought destination of Filipino workers.
For the sea-based workers the awardees were Chief Engineer Erwin Lizada and Eduardo Baga-an.
“They were chosen based on their accomplishments not only abroad but also on their families and community involvement. They have provided more than enough to be given such recognition,” he said.
In addition, Mendiola also said that they have extended financial assistance to Ebbie Palomar, a physically challenged and ex-OFW from Dumangas.
The celebration of the Migrant Workers Day, an annual event aimed at honoring OFWs, gathered some 3,000 OFWs and their families at the SM City Activity Center on Sunday. (PNA)
