DOLE 6 to employ 210 computer-literate youths
The Department of Labor and employment (DOLE) 6 will soon engage the services of 210 unemployed or underemployed computer-literate youths who are willing to share their expertise in computer operations to out of school youths (OSYs) and other disadvantaged youths and sectors under the special project of DOLE Kabuhayan Program called Kabataan ITO or K ITO Project.
The Kabataan ITO (Information Technology Opportunities) Project aims to mobilize IT-literate unemployed or underemployed youth as mentors to provide assistance to at least 1,500 OSYs and other vulnerable sectors in the region through lessons on basic and practical computer operations and to supervise online access to government programs and services.
The DOLE 6 will tap and mobilize 35 computer-literate youths in the Province of Aklan, 35 in Antique, 35 in Capiz, 15 in Guimaras, 45 in Iloilo, and 45 in Negros Occidental.
DOLE 6 Director Aida M. Estabillo said the project will help unemployed young people who will serve as volunteer mentors earn stipend and underemployed workers earn additional source of livelihood, while participants in Information Technology (IT) sessions learn the basics of computer operations.
“It is an earning and learning opportunities in which computer-literate youths earn a modest stipend of P25 per hour of service as volunteer mentors, while the youths they mentor learn basic and practical IT related skills and knowledge,” she said.
This project will improve IT literacy among the OSYs and other disadvantaged sectors through free mentoring sessions.
The DOLE 6 set aside close to P1 million to fund this project which will be launched in October this year.
