Information Technology week kicks off in Iloilo
Stakeholders of the information technology (IT) industry gathered Monday for the kick off of the annual IT week celebration spearheaded by the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (IFIT), in cooperation with the provincial and city governments of Iloilo.
IFIT chairman Jesraf Palmares said the activity was aimed at highlighting the IFIT capability of Iloilo, especially with its very rich human resources.
“We grow on our strength which is our human resource. We want to uplift their capabilities to be able to support the needs of the industry,” he said.
The celebration with the theme “Facing Global Challenges Through IT” kicked off with the opening of exhibits at the Robinsons Mall Monday morning.
Presentations on the IT manpower in Iloilo, launching of the Philippine IT General Certification Exam and a Microsoft Free Software for Students capped the first day of the celebration.
The organizer also invited experts to talk on on-line business, blogging at home, alternative income opportunities in the internet, Green ICT for sustainable future, importance of English proficiency and making great first impressions.
Meantime, Palmares in an interview challenged those who are into real estate here to be more proactive.
He said business process outsourcing companies abound in Bacolod City because of the readily available facility, giving them more options.
Trade and Industry Iloilo director Wilhelm Malones expressed optimism that the completion of the coal-fired power plant being constructed by the Global Business Power Corporation (GBPC) would surely boost the standing of Iloilo as one of the emerging IT destinations in the country. (PNA)
