Iwas Paputok
Iwas Paputok. You guys have seen this phrase before, and last week’s TNT issue. Great, for the Department of Health, although it still has a long way to go. That is, to get people to forget the transition of the old year, and the coming of the new year.
It is indeed an age-old tradition to usher in the New Year with a bang. The human beings get carried away, and BANG!, their hand and or fingers are blown off to smithereens!
Those making the “paputoks” are given license to make ‘paputoks!” They get sold weeks of before the old year disappear from the calendar. But now, there’s a requirement before engaging in such. They have to tow the line, otherwise “walang hanapbuhay.” Roughly, they manufacture firecrackers some distance away from houses, and to prepare them, they have to observe some preventive measures.
The government and the DOH, spend time in giving talks on the prevention of accidents, during manufacture, transport, sale, and educating the buyers on how to handle these firecrackers during the season. Also highlighted is alcohol. Do not imbibe alcohol when you want to handle firecrackers. Also, the guys selling firecrackers will have to teach you how to prevent getting your hands blown off. Off course, “IWASAN ANG PAPUTOK” IS BEST! But can you and I do away with the New Year without “paputok?”
