Car-bus collision kills four in Aklan
Four persons were instantly killed after the car they were riding collided head-on with a speeding passenger bus Wednesday afternoon at Brgy. Tina, Makato, Aklan.
Reports said that businessmen Alex Tiu, and Atila Tan, both residents of 202 Uygongco Apartment at Arroyo St., Iloilo City and Nestor Villareal, also of Iloilo City; and their driver Raymundo Catotal III, 42, of Pototan, Iloilo were on their way to Iloilo City from Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan when the incident happened.
The victims were on board a Toyota Corolla with plate number USK 912 registered to Zest-O Corporation.
Reports said that the car overtook an L-300 bus when it collided with the Gassat bus with plate number TXB-532, which was on its way to Caticlan Port in Malay, Aklan.
“May kurbada sa baba ng tulay, nag-overtake siya. Tapos, parang hindi niya nabawi kaagad, sumabit siya sa Gasat Bus,” said Makato PNP officer-in-charge SPO4 Moriel Guzman.
The incident sent the car in its total wreckage while the bus’s front portion was also smashed up.
The impact, reports said, had severed Tiu’s head from its body.
The driver was initially trapped inside the wrecked car.
After the incident, bus driver Arleen Quines, 49, of Aparri, Cagayan Vallery, fled leaving some 50 Manila-bound passengers stranded in the area.
But Quines later surrendered to Makato police.
According to him, the car took his lane.
“Nang-agaw siya ng linya. Nag-preno pa ako pero mabilis sila,” he claimed
Quines is now detained at Makato Police Station pending the proper disposition of his case.
