Only one stude tests positive in CHED’s random drug test in WV
Only one college student was tested positive for illegal drugs use during the random drug testing conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Western Visayas.
CHED assistant regional director Engr. Rex Casiple said that they have no record as to the student’s name.
He also refused to identify the school but claimed that it is in Negros Occidental province.
Casiple stated that the random drug test was conducted among 88 public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region.
Due to budgetary constraints, only 10 students in 88 out of 149 public and private colleges and universities were included in the test.
Mainly, CHED is dependent on the Department of Health for the conduct of the random drug test.
“The sample size might not represent the student population of Western Visayas due to a big margin of error,” he said. “Nevertheless, we welcome the negligible percentage that came with our random drug test.”
To note, CHED began the conduct of random drug testing on students and faculty members to 1,726 colleges and universities all over the country last year.
Students who test positive would undergo counseling and would be subjected to regular monitoring. Habitual users would be made to undergo drug rehabilitation.
