Fires razes 21 houses in Jamindan
JAMINDAN, Capiz – Twenty one houses made up of light materials were gutted by fire last Sunday afternoon at Magsaysay Street, Poblacion this municipality.
Police Inspector Lauro de la Torre, police chief of Jamindan police station, told The News Today (TNT) that the fire originated at the house of Jesus Adrimesin at around 3:30 p.m. on May 23, 2010 where the fire immediately spread at neighboring houses.
According to him, 20 houses were totally burned while one house was partially damaged. He added firemen had difficulty entering the area.
De la Torre also said that the fire brought an estimated cost of damage of P1.2 million while families who are now homeless are temporarily housed at the town’s civic center.
Firetrucks which responded to the fire scene came from Jamindan, Tapaz, Mambusao, Dao, Pontevedra and Sapian.
Reelected Mayor Ethel Jinon said that financial assistance as well as foods and clothing were already extended by the municipality to the displaced families who are affected by fire.
