Census in Iloilo and Guimaras extended
The conduct of the 2010 Census of Population and Housing in Iloilo and Guimaras will be extended to get the participation of those who were unavailable during the enumeration.
Iloilo Provincial Statistician Nelida Amolar said the extension will be done in areas where census takers are having difficulties either because of the unavailability of a responsible household member, or because of the distance of the houses to each other.
Amolar cited some of these special areas as subdivisions, mountainous areas and relocation sites.
The census taking will be continued by the hired field enumerators of the National Statistics Office since personnel of the Department of Education involved in the census will be returning to work with the opening of classes on June 15.
The NSO has hired around 2,115 census takers, mostly personnel of the Department of Education, to do this year’s census which covers information on population and housing.
Amolar said as of June 3, they have already collected about 60 percent responses from Guimaras and the city and province of Iloilo.
The 2010 CPH started on May 17 and is supposed to end on June 11. It is the 13th census of population and the 6th census of housing in the Philippines.
According to Amolar the estimated number of households in Iloilo and Guimaras in 2007 reached 428,793. (PIA)
